Hazmat History

The team originated in the summer of 1997. Our team name comes from Hazmat transportation - a division of the ECL Group of Companies. They bought us our first set of jerseys. Our inaugural season was the winter 1997-98 season. We played out of Alberta Men's Hockey League. We did not have a very successful opening year, and ended up changing leagues for the following winter season. We moved to the Parkland Hockey League, and played division two for two years, where we proceeded to win the division two championship in 1999-2000. We then moved up to division one, and have been playing there up until the end of the 2003-04 season. The Parkland Hockey League was taken over by the Edmonton Ice Box Hockey League at this time. We continued on with this league in its inaugural season in 2004-05 and played there until it went out of business at the end of the 2007-08 season. During this time we won two division one championships in 2006-07 and 2007-08. We then moved to the Edmonton Recreational Hockey League for the 2008-09 season, where we won the division one championship. For the 2009-10 season we moved to the ASHL playing out of the River Cree rinks where we won the A division championship. The drive for 5 fell flat during the 2010-11 season. The team ran into trouble getting enough full time players out, which has resulted in the team being merged with our minor league team - Design By Affiniti. An end to an era has arrived. For the 2011-12 season the team moved on with a full roster, and continued to play in the A division in the ASHL at the River Cree. But it will no longer carry on as Hazmat. The team was renamed to the Hazbeens. A new era in mens hockey has started. The new team won the A division championship that year and stayed in the ASHL until the end of the 2012-13 season. At that point we moved to the AMHL for the 2013-14 season where we won the division 1 championship in our first year there. After a dismal performance in the 2014-15 playoffs, the team rebounded well winning championships in the 2015 and 2016 summer seasons as well as the title in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 winter seasons.
